Red-shirt junior volleyball standout Amanda Winner and senior men's basketball star Taren Sullivan have been selected as the Oilers 2017-18 Mancuso Award winners. The award is named after and sponsored by Iggy Mancuso, a 1945 graduate and highly successful wrestling coach at Findlay from 1948-1958.
The award is intended to bring distinction and honor to the top male and female athlete at Findlay each year. The criteria for being selected includes; academic achievement, athletic achievement, contributions to the university, community and sport, sportsmanship, special distinction related to athletic success and athletes who best exemplify integrity, loyalty and humility in academics and athletics.
"These two student-athletes truly exemplify what it means to be an Oiler, said Director of Athletics, Brandi Laurita." Amanda and Taren have had great success on and off the court and are truly outstanding individuals who do a tremendous job of representing our university."
Winner holds a 3.80 grade point average in pre-physical therapy. She was named honorable mention All-American and was a first team all-conference and all-region pick. Winner is a seven-time member of the dean's list and volunteers at the Versailles Healthcare Center.
Sullivan holds a 3.20 grade point average in strength and conditioning. He earned first team All-American honors along with being named first team all-conference and first team all-region. Sullivan was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Player of the Year and serves on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). He also volunteers with the Special Olympics and at Findlay City Schools.
