Senior Anthony Fields
The University of Findlay football team (6-2, 5-2), ranked 18th in the nation, will be at home on Saturday, October 24 to face Northern Michigan University (5-2, 5-2). The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. inside Donnell Stadium.

The Series
The Oilers currently trail in the all-time series against the Wildcats 9-4 dating back to the 1954 campaign when Northern Michigan defeated Findlay 14-6.
Last season, Northern Michigan defeated Findlay 29-21 in Marquette, Michigan.
Jonathan Mora completed 15-of-25 passes for 155 yards. He threw one touchdown and also threw an interception in the loss.
Starting at wide receiver on offense and safety on defense, Mike Chambers had two carries for 17 yards and a score while also making three receptions for 27 yards and a score. Defensively, Chambers led the team with 11 stops and also picked off a pass.
DaJerrian Smith hauled in four passes for 62 yards while Melvin Jackson had 16 rushes for 78 yards and the one score.
Head Coach Jon Wauford
Jon Wauford is currently in his third season as the head coach of The University of Findlay football team and has his squad off to a 6-2 start in 2009.
Last year, Wauford guided Findlay to a 2-9 record with a 1-9 mark in the GLIAC. Six of the nine losses came by eight points or less.
In his first season as a head coach, Wauford led the Oilers to a 5-6 record with a 4-6 mark in the GLIAC. A forfeit by Saginaw Valley State University gave Wauford the fifth win on the season and the fourth in the GLIAC.
In 2006, Wauford served as the Oilers assistant head coach and defensive coordinator under Dan Simrell.
A native of Findlay, who did his undergraduate studies at Miami University and graduate studies at UF, Wauford became the 27th head coach in the history of Findlay football with his new appointment.
Wauford began his coaching career at UF when he served as the outside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator from 1995-98. While at Findlay, he helped guide the Oilers to the NAIA Division II national championship in 1995 and the NAIA national title in 1997.
In 1999, Wauford headed to Miami University where he served as the defensive line coach and special teams coordinator before being promoted to defensive coordinator at the start of the 2000 season. He helped guide the Red Hawks to a four-year record of 27-19, including a Mid-American Conference mark of 22-10 and two second place finishes in the East Division.
In addition, Wauford was responsible for recruiting Findlay High School and current Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, the 2003 Mid American Conference Player of the Year, NFL Rookie of the Year and two-time NFL Super Bowl champion , to Oxford in 2000.
After his stop in Oxford, Wauford gained valuable experience coaching and teaching at the high school level as the offensive and special teams coordinator at Clinton (Iowa) High School in 2003. He also was a special education teacher during his time in the Clinton City Schools.
From there, he went to Kent State University, where he served as the defensive line coach and defensive run-game coordinator during the 2004 and 2005 seasons.

The Oilers
The Oilers were defeated 38-13 by 8th ranked Grand Valley State University on Saturday, October 17 in Allendale, Michigan.
As a team the Oilers had trouble moving the ball and converted on only 1-of-8 third down plays. They also gave up 480 total yards to the Lakers who were determined to not be defeated two games in a row.
The Lakers also controlled the ball for 38:19 as the Oilers offense managed only 250 yard of total offense.
Senior quarterback Andrew Beam completed 17-of-23 passes for 187 yards to go along with a touchdown and an interception.
Senior wide receiver Mike Chambers caught eight passes for 107 yards and a score giving him 853 receiving yards on the season, only 166 yards shy of breaking the school record of 1,018 receiving yards in a season set by Derek Hutchinson in 1986.
Defensively, senior linebacker Joe Knopick had 14 tackles while junior defensive back Bryon Rizzi and senior defensive back Anthony Fields added nine and eight tackles respectively.

Northern Michigan Head Coach
Head coach Bernie Anderson is currently in his fourth year with the Wildcats and has his team off to a 5-2 start.
Anderson came to NMU from Michigan Technological University where he had been the head coach of the MTU football program for 19 years (1987-05). He is MTU’s all-time winningest gridiron mentor with 93 wins (93-96). Anderson led the Huskies to their first-ever NCAA playoff tournament in 2004, and his 1999 and 2004 squads both completed the season rated among the Top 10 teams in NCAA Division II rankings.
As a prep player, Anderson was a standout in football, track and wrestling at Ishpeming High School. In wrestling, he was a three-time Upper Peninsula champion who compiled a 78-5-1 record. He was also a two-time all-conference football player.
As an NMU collegian, Anderson earned NCAA All-America honors as a Wildcat wrestler in the 132-pound weight division in 1976. He was 72-30-2 during his four-year career. He graduated from Northern in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education. In 1984, he completed a master’s degree at NMU.
The Wildcats
Northern Michigan is coming off of a 28-17 loss at home to Hillsdale.
NMU registered 370 yards of total offense on the day (176 rushing and 194 passing). Hillsdale had a little over 400 yards for the game in total offense with 408 (132 rushing and 276 passing).
Mark Bossuah led the ‘Cats with 79 yards on 16 carries.
Carter Kopach accounted for over 180 yards of total offense. He was 15-29-0 for 151 yards and rushed for 31 on seven carries.
Thirteen of NMU’s 16 catches were caught by Dustin Brancheau and Zach Nichols with eight and five respectively. Nichols had a game-high 115 receiving yards.
Demitri Stewart led the defense with 13 total tackles (four solo and nine assisted). Nathan Yelk had 11 total tackles on the day with six solo and five assisted.

Defense...Defense...Defense
The Oilers currently rank fifth in the GLIAC and 50th in the nation in total defense, allowing only 315.8 yards per game.
In addition, the Oilers are only giving up 17.0 points per game to their opponents. The mark ranks third in the GLIAC and 18th in the nation.
Findlay has proven to be quite successful against passing attacks, allowing only 159.1 yards per game through the air thus far. The total ranks third in the conference and 19th in the nation.
Forcing Turnovers
Overall, the Oilers +12 advantage in the turnover column is the top mark in the conference and the fifth best in NCAA Division II football.
Picking Off Passes
The Oilers currently rank first in the GLIAC in interceptions, forcing 12 so far. The total is also the 21st best nationally.
Senior defensive back Anthony Fields and sophomore defensive back Ikechi Emeaghara have each accumulated three picks on the season, a total which ranks second in the GLIAC.
Racking Up Receiving Yards
Senior wide receiver Mike Chambers is off to quite a start for the Oilers and leads the GLIAC in receiving yards per game at 106.6. His yards per game is also the sixth best mark in all of NCAA Division II football.
On the season, Chambers has caught 45 passes for 853 yards and seven touchdowns. His 5.6 receptions per game is also the fourth best mark in the GLIAC.
The school record for receiving yards in a season at Findlay is 1,018 set by Derek Hutchinson during the 1986 campaign.
Last season, Chambers finished with a school record 74 receptions, racking up 915 yards in the process.
Putting Points On The Board
The Oilers are currently averaging 28.0 points per contest, the sixth best mark in the GLIAC.
Findlay’s offense has been spectacular this season as well in the yardage department, leading to their ability to put points on the board. Their average of 384.9 yards per game is the fifth best mark in the GLIAC and 49th best in the nation.
Grinding Away
The Oilers are averaging 169.6 rushing yards per game, good for sixth in the GLIAC and 40th in the nation. They are being led by freshman running back Monterae Williams who currently ranks fourth in the GLIAC and 20th in the nation in rushing yardage per game at 91.0.
On the season, Williams has rushed 168 times for 728 yards and six touchdowns.
Airing It Out
The Oilers currently ranked fourth in the GLIAC in passing yardage per game at 215.2. They are being led by senior quarterback Andrew Beam who ranks fourth in the GLIAC at 202.1 passing yards per game.
Beam has thrown for 1,617 yards and ten touchdowns this season and his efficiency rating of 145.9 ranks third in the conference and 27th in the nation.
Tackling Machine
Senior linebacker Joe Knopick currently ranks fifth in the GLIAC and 22nd in the nation in tackles per game at 10.2 and has registered a team-high 82 stops on the year.
Getting After The Quarterback
Senior defensive lineman/linebacker John Williams leads the team and ranks fifth in the GLIAC in sacks with 4.0 on the season.
3 Points
Junior kicker Cameron Stevens has made eight field goals on the season, the third highest total in the GLIAC as well as the 22nd best in the nation.
His 28 career field goals at Findlay is the best in school history.
Batting Down Passes
Senior defensive back Anthony Fields and sophomore defensive lineman Brandon Cornell are currently ranked third and fourth in the GLIAC in passes defended with ten and nine respectively.
Sophomore defensive back Ikechi Emeaghara also shows up in the league leaders, ranking sixth with seven deflections.
Dominating The Ball
The Oilers currently rank first in the GLIAC and 13th in the nation in time of possession, controlling the ball for 32:44 per game.
Booming Punts
Freshman punter Brian Schmeidebusch currently ranks second in the GLIAC in punting, averaging 42.3 yards per attempt.
