The University of Findlay women’s basketball team fell behind early but rallied for a 72-58 victory over Ferris State University on Saturday, February 6 in Big Rapids, Michigan. The win gives the Oilers a 16-5 record on the season with an 11-5 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
The Oilers fell behind 10-0 in the first three minutes of the game but out-scored the Bulldogs 33-13 during the remainder of the opening half to take a 33-23 lead at the break.
Findlay then kept a double-digit lead for most of the second half to grab their 16th win on the year, the most since finishing the 2001-02 campaign with a 16-10 mark.
Individually, sophomore guard Laura Bardall had a huge game for Findlay as she scored a season-high 24 points on 10-of-19 shooting to go along with six rebounds and five assists.
Senior guard Maggie Gompers also found her stroke, scoring 16 points, the most since pouring in 21 against Wheeling Jesuit University in the second game of the season.
Gompers hit 6-of-12 shots from the field and drilled 4-of-10 attempts from three point range.
Senior guard Audra Mihalic stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, a season-high nine assists and five rebounds while senior forward Megan Sellers chipped in 12 points and seven boards during the win.
As a team, Findlay shot 41.7 percent (25-of-60) from the floor and held Ferris State to a 37.3 percent (19-of-51) shooting clip.
The Oilers also dominated the painted area, doubling the Bulldogs total of points in the paint at 36-18.
Tricia Principe and Kelsey DeNoyelles led the Bulldogs with 14 and 13 points respectively.
The Oilers will be back in action again on Thursday, February 11 when they face Northwood University at 6:00 p.m. in Midland, Michigan.
