Oilers place 14 players on GLIAC All-Academic Team

Junior Courtney Niemeyer

Fourteen members of the University of Findlay volleyball team earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic Honors for the fall 2009 season.

The team accumulated a 3.57 team GPA in the fall and placed more athletes on the All-Academic team than any other volleyball team in the conference. To earn the honor, athletes must be in at least their second year at the university and maintain a GPA above 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

“We are extremely proud of our athletes' performances in the classroom this semester,” Coach Wick Colchagoff said. “Their academic focus goes to show that our program is filled with well-rounded student athletes who take their responsibilities very seriously.”

Seniors Amanda Binggeli, Kristin Johnson, Ashley Lewis, Kelly Walter, and Jenna Zeisloft received the award, as did juniors Megan Florence, Abby LaVigne, Courtney Niemeyer, Sarah Schroeder and Jenny Slone. Sophomores Rachael Hammond, Morgan Rogers, Erin Thomasson and Jessica VonIns rounded out the list of Oilers named to the All-Academic Team.

Niemeyer, an occupational therapy major, and Walter, an environmental safety and occupational health major, led the team with 4.0 GPAs for the fall term.
