The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked 25th in the nation, defeated #11 Northern Kentucky University by a score of 50-49 on Saturday, March 10 in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Tournament in Louisville, Ky.
The Oilers, who built a 10-0 lead to start the game and never trailed, improved to 24-6 on the year with the win and will now face #4 Bellarmine University tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.
The Norse had the ball with under ten seconds to play, but junior guard Aaron Robinson came up with a huge steal. After a foul, freshman forward Jake Heagen went to the free throw line with only four seconds remaining.
After two misses from Heagen, the Norse had one final opportunity to win the game, but they could not get a shot off before the buzzer sounded.
Findlay shot 41.9 percent (18-of-43) from the floor and held the Norse to a mere 33.3 percent (14-of-42) shooting clip.
Heagen led the team with 11 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
Ethan Faulkner led the Norse with 24 points, nearly half of Northern Kentucky's points.
