The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked 22nd in the nation, saw their season come to a close in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament as #7 Drury University came away with an 89-77 win on Saturday, March 16 in Springfield, Mo.
The game was tied at 39-39 when the first half buzzer sounded and was still deadlocked at the 11:42 mark of the second half when the scoreboard read 55-55. At the 8:01 mark of the second half, the Oilers trailed by a 63-60 margin when senior guard Aaron Robinson connected on a triple, but the Oilers would get no closer than six the rest of the way as the Panthers extended their lead.
The Oilers shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) from the floor and drained 11-of-31 (35.5%) shot attempts from behind the three point line. The Panthers however made an incredible 67.4 percent (31-of-46) from the field and held a 52-24 advantage in points in the paint.
Robinson added 13 points, making four triples, while senior forward Jack Smith scored nine points off the bench.
The Panthers were led by Brandon Lockhart's 21 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Alex Hall, the Midwest Region Player of the Year, chipped in 17 points as well.
The Oilers concluded their season with a 22-8 record.
*Robinson ends his stellar career ranked 38th all-time at Findlay with 1,029 points. Smith scored 906 career points and Piehl recorded 816 during his three years with the program.
