Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay men's basketball team controlled the Marygrove Mustangs on Friday, Dec. 30 in Croy Gymnasium and improved their record to 9-3 on the year. The 109-59 win is the second game in a row in which the Oilers have eclipsed the 100-point mark. That marks the first time since the 2001-02 season that Findlay has put up triple digits in back-to-back games.
The contest was close through ten minutes as a Mustang three-pointer with 9:00 left in the first half cut Findlay's lead to just five points at 22-17. In the final nine minutes, however, Findlay would go on a 27-6 run and enter the half with a lead of 49-23.
Findlay shot their second-highest shooting percentage of the year as they made 41-of-69 attempts from the floor for 59.4% that included 12-of-30 from beyond the arc. The Oilers held Marygrove to just 24-of-68 and forced the Mustangs into 23 turnovers.
The Oilers were led by juniors Martyce Kimbrough and Elijah Kahlig who each scored 14 points. Kahlig led the team with five assists and pulled in two rebounds and had two steals. He made four-of-six shots from beyond the arc.
Junior Taren Sullivan scored 13 points, grabbed five rebounds, had five assists, and three steals while senior Tyler Stern-Tucker chipped in 12 points on a perfect five-of-five from the floor. Freshman Aaron Overhiser also reached double-figures with 12 pionts off the bench.
Findlay will be back home on Monday, Jan. 2 to take on Carlow University at 6:00 pm.
