The No. 13 Oilers will open up NCAA Division II National Tournament play against Drury University on March 10. The Oilers, who are seeded third in the Midwest Region, will play the sixth-seeded Panthers at noon in Big Rapids, Mich.

Series Information

The Oilers have met the Panthers only once before. They fell in the NCAA Division II National Tournament to Drury by a score of 89-77 during the 2012-13 campaign.

The Panthers shot a sizzling 67.4 percent (31-of-46) from the floor in the game and were led by Brandon Lockhart's 21 points, six rebounds and six assists.

Alex Hall had 17 points while Ian Carter added 15.

The Oilers were led by Greg Kahlig's 20 points. Brad Piehl had 16 points and seven rebounds while Aaron Robinson hit four three pointers en route to 13 points.

The Oilers shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) from the floor and canned 11-of-31 (35.5%) attempts from behind the three point line in the loss.

#13 Findlay

The Oilers are 26-4 on the year and will be making their 14th appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament.

The Oilers are led by senior forward Taren Sullivan, who was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Player of the Year. Sullivan is averaging 16.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. He is also shooting 52.4 percent from the floor and 41.5 percent from behind the three point line.

Senior guard Martyce Kimbrough leads the team in scoring at 18.2 points per game and has made a team-high 96 three pointers. He is shooting 40.0 percent from long range and was voted first team all-conference this season.



The Panthers are 21-7 on the season and averaging 84.3 points per game. They are also shooting 40.9 percent from three point range and have made 325 three pointers this season. Their 11.9 made three pointers per game is the seventh-best mark in the nation.

Isaac Johnson leads the team in scoring at 12.5 points per contest. He is followed by Conley Garrison (9.8), Andrew Ballock (9.7) and Kamau Kinder (8.6) in the scoring column.

The Panthers, who are 3-3 in their last six games, are shooting 49.2 percent from the field and are also averaging 6.7 steals per contest.


1,000-Point Club

Senior guard Martyce Kimbrough ranks 11th all-time at Findlay with 1,611 career points. He is chasing Marc Bishop for 10th place on the all-time scoring list. Bishop put up 1,658 points for the Oilers from 1996-99.

Senior forward Taren Sullivan ranks 14th all-time at Findlay with 1,531 career points. He is chasing Randy O'Dell for 13th place on the all-time scoring list. O'Dell put up 1,572 career points for the Oilers during the 1982-85 campaigns.

Senior guard Elijah Kahlig is looking to join the 1,000-point club this season and has scored 968 career points during his tenure at Findlay.

The Oilers have seen 46 players reach the 1,000-point plateau during their careers with the program.


The Oilers have appeared in 14 NCAA Division II National Tournaments since joining the DII ranks as a full member in 2000-01 and have recorded an 18-12 record in those games. They have appeared in the national tournament during the 2001-02, 2002-03, 2003-04, 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.  

The team reached the Elite 8 for the first time in school history during the 2004-05 campaign and advanced to the Sweet 16 during the 2007-08 season and again in 2016-17. They then used those experiences to win a NCAA Division II National Championship during the 2008-09 campaign, finishing the year with a perfect 36-0 record. They claimed the title with a 56-53 overtime win against Cal Poly Pomona on March 28, 2009 in Springfield, Mass. Their 36 wins as an undefeated national champion are the most in the history of NCAA Division II men's basketball.
