The 8th-ranked University of Findlay men's basketball team captured their second straight Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) regular season title with an 81-59 win over Kentucky Wesleyan College on Feb. 28 in the Croy Physical Education Center. The win improves the Oilers record to 24-3 on the season with a 17-2 mark in league play.
The Oilers only led by two at the half as they entered the break up 35-33. They turned in a standout second half performance however, outscoring the Panthers 46-26, to claim the top-seed in the 2019 Great Midwest Tournament.
Senior forward Alex White recorded a game-high 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting to lead the way. He also grabbed six rebounds, blocked three shots, and now sits only five points shy of becoming the Oilers 47th member of the 1,000-point club.
The Oilers shot 50.0 percent (31-of-62) from the floor in the win and also dished out 18 assists. Nine of those assists came from sophomore guard Tommy Schmock, who also finished with six rebounds and three points. Schmock has now registered 168 assists on the year, four away from breaking the single season school record. Former UF All-American Dustin Pfeifer holds the school record of 171, set during the 2004-05 campaign.
The Oilers will be back at home on Saturday for senior day to close the regular season. They will host Trevecca Nazarene University at 3pm.
