Al Baker is entering his 21st year as the head golf coach at The University of Findlay in the 2011-12 campaign. During his tenure, the Oilers have won 63 events and have participated in post season play 26 times with either a team or an individual.

In all, the Oilers golf program has produced one national champion, seven all-Americans and 24 all-American scholar athletes during the program’s NAIA and NCAA affiliation.

As a coach, Baker was named the GLIAC Coach of the Year during the 2007-08 and 2001-02 seasons for the men's team.

In 2009, the men's team finished second at the GLIAC Championship.

In the 2007 season, Baker guided the men's team to their first ever GLIAC Championship after firing a school record 889 in the three round competition.

In 2004, the Oilers men’s team recorded a second place finish at the GLIAC championships.

In 2002, the Oilers women’s golf team recorded their highest finish, placing third at the GLIAC championships.

Both teams have competed on a national level since making the jump to NCAA competition with the men playing in the NCAA regional in nine out of the last ten years.

During the NAIA days, Baker had much success with both teams, competing on the national level on a consistent basis. In 1998, his women’s team placed fourth at the NAIA championships behind national champion Kiki Corliss.

In addition to coaching golf, Baker also serves as an instructor in the areas of teacher education and physical education at the University. For 13 years Baker was an assistant men’s basketball coach at U of F. During those years the basketball team averaged 20 wins per season, including five trips to the NAIA National Championships in 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997 and 1999.

After graduating from The University of Findlay (then Findlay College) in 1973, Baker began his coaching career at Arcadia High School as an assistant basketball coach. In two short years, he was promoted to head coach and in a span of four years, Baker took a struggling program and won two district titles and the first outright conference championship in the school’s history.

Originally from Springfield, Ohio, Baker graduated from Northwestern High School, lettering three times in basketball and baseball. He also participated in basketball and baseball at The University of Findlay before graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973. In 1985 he received his Master’s of Arts in education at Austin Peay State University, where he served as an assistant men’s basketball coach.

Baker has many years of experience as a teacher at the high school and collegiate level. In 1989-90 he was selected for Who’s Who in American Education for his work as a student-teacher supervisor for Bowling Green State University while teaching at Findlay High School.

Dominic Guarnieri is entering his first year as an assistant golf coach at The University of Findlay.

Guarnieri was a four-year letter winner for the Oilers from 2001-05 and became a graduate assistant coach with the program after his career was over.  While serving as a graduate assistant coach from 2005-07, Guarnieri earned his master's of business degree with an emphasis in organizational leadership.

After receiving his graduate degree, Guarnieri became an assistant golf coach at St. Marys Memorial High School for one year before taking over the head coaching position for two years.  In his second year, he led the team to their only conference tournament win in school history.

A graduate of St. Marys Memorial, Guarnieri has had a successful playing career as he was the 2010 and 2012 Mercer County Elks Club champion.  He also was the 2011 Findlay Country Club champion and was named the 2011 TDGA Player of the Year.

Michael Schmitmeyer is entering his first year as an assistant golf coach with the Oilers after a stellar playing career.

Schmitmeyer concluded his career at Findlay with the fourth lowest scoring average in Oilers history.  The 2009 GLIAC Freshman of the Year, Schmitmeyer earned first team all-conference honors as a sophomore and senior and was a second team all-league pick as a freshman and junior.
