After graduating from The University of Findlay (then Findlay College) in 1973, Baker began his coaching career at Arcadia High School as an assistant basketball coach. In two short years, he was promoted to head coach and in a span of four years, Baker took a struggling program and won two district titles and the first outright conference championship in the school’s history.
Originally from Springfield, Ohio, Baker graduated from Northwestern High School, lettering three times in basketball and baseball.
