The University of Findlay men's soccer team won 5-1 against Walsh University Sunday, Oct. 18 in North Canton, Ohio. This win gives the team an 8-4-1 record on the season with a 7-3-1 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
The Oilers powered away five goals in the game to earn head coach Andy Smyth his 200th win with the men's soccer team. The first goal of the game was scored by senior Jordan Gozelski when he beat the Walsh goal keeper on the left side of the net. Nearing the end of first half senior captain Mark Sleasman added another goal to his record when he scored unassisted. Sleasman leads the team in goals scored with 9 goals on the season.
The Oilers dominated the first half with a 2-1 advantage and continued to advance past the Cavaliers, scoring three more goals in the second half. Gozelski earned his second goal of the game with an assist from senior Veselin Panchev. Panchev is now second in assists on the team behind freshman forward Michael Shaikly.
Senior forward Ryan Husband scored the third goal of the game with help from freshman Andrew Austria. Sophomore Adam Naayers capped the Oilers offense when he scored his first goal of the season unassisted in the 79th-minute.
The men play next on Tuesday, Oct. 20 against Concord University in Athens, West Virginia at 4pm.
