The University of Findlay men and women's swimming and diving teams competed at Wayne State University on Friday, January 13. Both teams fell short against the Warriors. The women were bested 161-78, while the men were outscored 157-77.
Junior Emma Barnes claimed the top spot in the 1000 yard free with a time of 10:57.34. Barnes grabbed second in the 400 yard IM at the 4:39.67 mark.
Sophomore Amanda Stiegal earned first in the 200 yard free with a time of 1:58.27.
The 200 yard free relay team consisting of freshman Lauren Blanchard, freshman Kathryn Samuelson, sophomore Brittany Borzych, and freshman Brittany Menzer took first at 1:43.29. Blanchard also competed in the 50 yard free where she claimed second with a time of 25.25 while Samuelson finished in second in the 100 yard back after she clocked in at 1:00.79.
In the 100 yard breast, freshman Julia Snell earned a second place finish with a time of 1:07.01.
In the 100 yard breast, the top four spots belonged to the Oilers. Senior Todo Djurovic finished first (1:01.85), freshman Adam Stretch earned second (1:03.14), senior Matthew Sheehan grabbed third (1:06.94), and senior Andrew Rickabaugh took fourth (1:08.91).
The 200 yard free relay teams also took the top three spots. The A team of sophomore Conner Whitaker, freshman Isaac Stretch, freshman Gerard Niermann, and senior Nick Kaftan claimed first at 1:30.85. The B team of senior Clay Fogle, freshman Tucker Stocker, junior Ross Stansbery, and Stretch earned second with a time of 1:33.37. The C team featuring Rickabaugh, Sheehan, freshman Nathan Ladetto and sophomore Peter Velasquez finished third at 1:44.54.
The 200 yard medley relay team consisting of sophomore Trae Gulgin, Djurovic, Whitaker, and senior Cody Craig earned second with a time of 1:39.49. Gulgin also finished second in the 100 yard back with a 54.63 mark.
Findlay's next event will be Saturday, January 14 as host Grand Valley State University for a dual meet. The event will also be senior day for the Oilers.
