Findlay, Ohio – For as good as the University of Findlay swim team has been in recent history, on Tuesday, Nov. 14 the Oilers accomplished something it never had before; it boasted a CollegeSwimming.com National Swimmer of the Week. This award was made increasingly special because Findlay did not earn just one National Swimmer of the Week, but two. Senior Janko Radmanovic and junior Amanda Stiegal earned the Men's National Swimmer of the Week and Women's National Swimmer of the Week, respectively, in NCAA Division II for the week of Nov. 6-12.
Radmanovic, who has earned Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Swimmer of the Week for four straight weeks, earned Men's National Swimmer of the Week for the first time in program history. Last week, the Belgrade, Serbia native was a perfect seven-for-seven in the pool earning first place in every event in which he competed. He began the week with wins in the 500-yard freestyle (4:42.60) and 1000-yard freestyle (9:48.83) against Ashland. He was also a part of the Oilers 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:26.99) that captured gold against the Eagles.
Radmanovic, who owns the second-fastest 200-yard butterfly time in the country this season at 1:49.84, then added four more first place finishes against Lewis. He claimed first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.94), 50-yard freestyle (21.05) and 100-yard butterfly (50.31). He was a part of the Oilers 200-yard freestyle relay team that took first at 1:25.12.
Stiegal also had a perfect week, going six-for-six in her events this last weekend. Against Ashland, Stiegal took first place in the 50-yard freestyle (24.67) and was a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay that won with a time of 1:38.20.
The next day against Hillsdale/Lewis, Stiegal began with a win in the 400-yard medley relay (3:58.83) before again winning the 50-yard freestyle (24.21). Four events later, Stiegal took first place in the 100-yard freestyle by almost two seconds (52.71) and later finished her day with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:38.46).
The Oilers are back in the pool this Saturday, Nov. 18 when they take on Division I Toledo and former conference rival Tiffin in a tri-meet hosted by Toledo.
