Findlay, Ohio – On Thursday, January 16 the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) announced their Swimmers of the Week for the following week of competition. The University of Findlay swept the awards as freshman Jaeger Loran was named Male Athlete of the Week and senior Hanna Cederholm earned Female Athlete of the Week.
This is Loran's first Athlete of the Week award in his young career while Cedarholm has now been named Athlete of the Week for the sixth time and the fourth time this season.
Jaeger Loran helped guide the Oilers men's swimming and diving team to wins over Ashland and Tiffin this past week with arguably his best week of swimming to-date. Loran took first in the 100 yard backstroke against Ashland and took second in the 400 medley relay and 200 yard freestyle.
The next day against Tiffin, Loran's day was highlighted by his 100 yard backstroke where he finished in a time of 52.72 and defeated last season's conference champion and Male Swimmer of the Year. Loran capped his day against the Dragons as a member of the team that won the 200 freestyle relay.
Hanna Cederholm continues to collect hardware with yet another Athlete of the Week award. On Friday night against Ashland, Cederholm took first place in the 200 IM, 400 freestyle relay, and the 100 breaststroke.
The following day against the Dragons, Cederholm swam in some of her non-traditional events, but still finished at the top. She took first place in the 200 medley relay and took second in the 100 yard backstroke behind teammate, Payton Zess, by six-tenths of a second. She then earned first place in the 500 yard freestyle, the first time in her career that she has competed in that event. She also finished first in the 100 yard IM.
The Oilers are back in the pool on Friday, Jan. 17 when they host Wayne State in the final home contest of the season.
