Oilers Wrap-Up Findlay Classic and Elite Throws

The University of Findlay track and field teams hosted day two and wrapped up competition of the Findlay Classic and Elite Throws on Saturday, January 28.

Women's Results

Two Oilers claimed the top spots in the 400 meter dash with junior Laura Hernandez earning gold (59.78) and freshman Semoy Hemmings capturing silver (1:00.10).

Junior Milani Glass met the NCAA provisional mark in the 60 meter hurdles during her preliminary run with a time of 8.84.  She finished 2nd in the 60 meter hurdle finals and again met the provisional mark with a time of 8.68. Glass also claimed second 2nd in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.94.

The 4x400 meter relay team finished in 2nd after clocking in at the 4:02.66 mark.

In the 600 meter run, junior Claire Crum finished with a time of 1:45.63 to earn 6th.

A pair of freshman finished in the top ten of the 800 meter run.  Madisen Borer claimed 8th (2:23.41) and Jenna Shipman captured 9th (2:25.05).  Shipman also competed in the long jump and finished 8th with a distance of 5.02m.

Senior Melanie Ruich finished 9th in the mile run with a time of 5:36.22.

In the 3000 meter run, sophomore Torrie Purdy crossed the finished line at the 11:13.95 mark to earn 6th.

Women's Throws

In the shot put, junior Tynelle Gumbs (4th, 13.26m), sophomore Holly Averesch (5th, 13.22m), and freshman Hannah Hahler (6th, 13.12m) all performed well on the day.

In the elite shot put, junior Alex DeVincentis finished 8th with a distance of 14.63m.

In the weight throw, junior Trevia Gumbs earned 3rd and met the NCAA provisional mark with a toss of 17.43m.

In the elite weight throw, Tynelle Gumbs finished 2nd with an NCAA automatic qualifying throw of 20.54m.  That throw currently ranks her 3rd in NCAA Division II. Senior Erica King also booked herself a trip to the NCAA National Championship meet with an automatic qualifying throw of 19.46m to earn 4th. With that throw, King has the 7th best throw in the nation.

Men's Results

The 4x400 meter relay team claimed the top spot with a time of 3:22.76.

Sophomore Jaye Williams won the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.94 and sophomore Khalil Capers placed 7th at the 7.15 mark.

A pair of Oilers claimed gold and silver in the 400 meter dash.  Sophomore George Effah earned 1st after crossing the finish line at in 49.60 seconds and senior Derek Collins placed 2nd with a time of 50.49.

Junior Sergi Torres earned the gold in the 600 meter run at the 1:22.09 mark.

In the 200 meter dash, Lenell Shelby III captured 2nd with a time of 22.86 and Williams finished 6th at 23.02. Shelby III also competed in the 60 meter hurdles where he met the NCAA provisional and finished 2nd with a time of 8.10.

Freshman Clint Recker also ran in the 60 meter hurdles and earned 6th at the 8.68 mark.

Sophomore Jonathan Allen finished 2nd in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:14.67.

Men's Throws

In the Elite shot put, senior Ben Hahler met the NCAA provisional mark and earned 4th with a distance of 17.65m.

In the Elite weight throw, sophomore Austin Combs met the NCAA provisional mark and captured 5th with a toss of 20.44m.

In the weight throw, senior Mitch Adkins claimed 10th with a distance of 16.51m.

The Oilers return to competition on Friday, February 3 when they will travel to Hillsdale for the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic.
