Oilers Ranked 7th in National Poll

The University of Findlay men's indoor track and field team will enter the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship as the seventh-ranked team in the nation.

The Oilers, who have been ranked as high as fourth this season, will take part in the national meet on March 9-10 in Pittsburg, Kan.

The group of competitors will be led by a pair of throwers in seniors Eldred Henry and Austin Combs. Both standout athletes will compete in the shot put and weight throw for the Oilers.

Henry holds the top mark in the nation in the shot put at 20.61 meters, which is a NCAA Division II record. He was recently tabbed the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Field Athlete of the Meet at the championship event. The throw, which won him a conference title, also blew away the Oilers school record and set a new league record as well.

In the weight throw, Henry, who was recently tabbed the Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year, is ranked 16th at 19.78 meters.

Combs meanwhile will look to defend his national title that he won last year in the weight throw. Combs is currently ranked second in the nation in the event with a mark of 21.71 meters and has earned All-American honors in the event three times during his career. He has also won two straight conference titles in the event.

Combs is also ranked 12th among all NCAA Division II qualifiers in the shot put at 17.93 meters. He earned All-American accolades in the event last year as well.
