Senior Austin Combs won his second consecutive national championship in the weight throw on March 8 as he stood at the top of the podium at the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship in Pittsburg, Kan.
Combs, who was victorious last year in the event, defended his title with a heave of 21.22 to better Ashland's Brent Fairbanks, who finished second at 21.14. He was also named an All-American in the event for his efforts.
Xavier Marable was also in action today for the Oilers and qualified for the finals in the 400-meter dash after placing eighth in the preliminary round with a time of 47.62 while Eldred Henry took 17th with a mark of 18.65 in the weight throw.
The second day of the event will take place tomorrow. Henry, the favorite in the shot put will compete while Martin Etsey will compete in the triple jump.
