Tiffin, OH – The University of Findlay women's basketball team traveled to Tiffin University on Thursday, January 26 for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South matchup. The Oilers were unable to knock off the Dragons as they suffered a 77-71 defeat to fall to 9-11 on the season and 3-9 in conference play.
The Dragons jumped out to an early 26-18 lead at the end of the first quarter behind an 11-2 run to start the game. The Oilers were able to claw their way back in the second quarter thanks to 10 first half points by sophomore Elissa Ellerbrock to trail 42-38 going into the half.
Findlay came out of halftime clicking on all cylinders and outscored their opponents 24-15 in the third quarter to take a 62-57 lead heading into the final quarter. The Oilers shot a stellar 71% in the period on 10-of-14 from the field, while Tiffin ended the quarter shooting 37% on 6-of-16 from the field. The tables turned in the final period, as Findlay was outscored 20-9 in the final period. With the score tied 68-68 with just over four minutes to play, the hosts ended the game on a 9-3 run for a 77-71 final.
The Oilers were led by Ellerbrock, who came off the bench to score 12 points on a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor. She was also perfect at the free throw line shooting 4-for-4. Sophomore Anna Hintz recorded her third double-double on the season by putting up 10 points and grabbing a game high 13 rebounds.
As a team the Oilers shot 24-of-54 (44.4%) from the field and 4-for-13 (30.8%) from long range. They also connected on 19-of-22 at the charity stripe (86.4%), one made free throw shy of their season high.
Findlay continues their road trip on Saturday, January 28 at #1 Ashland University with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
