Findlay Overcomes Slow Start | Dominates in Final Tune-Up

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team wrapped up their preseason schedule with a home exhibition game against the Division III Alma College Scots on Tuesday, Nov. 7. The Oilers earned a 91-43 victory to close out their preseason slate with a 1-2 record.

The game was closely contested early on as Findlay trailed 13-12 through the first ten minutes of action. An 8-0 run to start the second period would give the Oilers a 20-13 lead, but the Scots wouldn't go away easily.

Alma would claw their way to within two points a pair of times, the final of which came with 2:09 left in the first half when the Scots' Madeline Barnauskas would bury a three to cut Findlay's lead to 25-23. But, an 8-2 run by the Oilers gave the home squad a 33-25 advantage at the break.

From that point on it was all Orange and Black as the Oilers would balloon their lead to 48 points by game's end after outscoring the Scots by 40 points in the second half alone.

Findlay shot 35-of-79 (44.3%) from the floor including 11-of-31 (35.5%) from behind the three-point line. The Oilers also held an advantage on the boards, outrebounding the Scots 42-35, and also forced the visitors into 35 turnovers, 24 of which came via the steal, while committing just 11.

Senior Lynsey Englebrecht led the home team in scoring, pouring in 17 points on the strength of 5-of-13 from deep. She also had two rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Junior teammates Lauren Ruth and Christa Puthoff each reached double-figures with 12 points apiece. Ruth shot 4-of-7 from the floor including 2-of-4 from deep while sinking both of her attempts from the charity stripe. Puthoff made 5-of-6 from the floor and also snagged five rebounds, had two assists, and two steals.

Freshman Madison Stolly stuffed the stat sheet for Findlay. She contributed nine points, led the team with four steals, and picked up three assists while junior teammate Elissa Ellerbrock also scored nine points.

Junior Anna Hintz led the squad with seven boards, four offensive, to go along with eight points, and two steals.

Findlay will begin regular season play this Saturday, Nov. 11 when they take on Wayne St. (Mich.) in Painesville, Ohio as part of the the Lake Erie Conference Challenge.
