The 12th-ranked University of Findlay women's golf team won their first event of the spring, taking home first place honors at the Saginaw Valley State Invitational. The Oilers posted a 36-hole score of 608 (304, 304) to win the tournament, which was held at Kearney Hills Golf Links in Lexington, Ky.
Freshman Jill Schmitmeyer and junior Mackenzie Keenoy led the Oilers as they eached tied for eighth place with an 8-over par score of 152. Schmitmeyer posted a 75 in the opening round before carding a 77 in the second while Keenoy shot a 76 on both days.
Seniors Makenzie Torres and Samantha Hatter tied or tenth with a score of 153 while sophomore Kristina Kniesly tied for 12th with a 154. Torres shot a 77 in the first round before posting a 76, Hatter turned in a 75 in round one and a 78 in round two, and Kniesly shot an 81 in the first round before shooting a 1-over par score of 73 to wrap the tournament.
Junior Meredith Wipper tied for 16th with a 156 (77, 79) at the tournament as well.
