Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's golf team is playing host to the annual William Beall Fall Classic on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 7-8 at the Findlay Country Club. There are 17 teams in the field and, after playing 36 holes on the first day, the Oilers, ranked sixth in the country, find themselves in second overall, just four shots behind the University of Indianapolis, the second ranked team in the country. UIndy posted a 291 in the first round and shot a 299 in round two for a 590 (+14) while Findlay shot a 300 in the morning round and a 294 in the nightcap (594 | +18).
Tied for first on the leaderboard is senior Meredith Wipper. She has a two-round total of 144 (E) that included a 77 (+5) in the opening round and a 67 (-5) in the second round. Her second round score was the lowest round posted by any player in the field on day one and also ties the program record for lowest 18-hole score. It's the second time in her career that Wipper has posted a 67. The Hilton Head, S.C. native leads the field with nine birdies including a stretch of six birdies in nine holes in her second round.
Junior Kristina Kniesly is currently tied for sixth overall with a 148 (+4). She began the day with an under-par round of 70 (-2) and shot a 78 (+6) in her second round. Kniesly is second in the field with 26 pars in the tournament and is also second in par 5 scoring at one-under.
In a tie for 17th is sophomore Jill Schmitmeyer. She shot rounds of 77 (+5) and 76 (+4) for a two-round score of 153 (+9). One shot behind her is freshman Danbi Kim who is in a tie for 19th on the leaderboard. Kim got to her score of 154 (+10) with a first round score of 81 (+9) and a second round 73 (+1).
Senior Mackenzie Keenoy rounded out the Oilers lineup with a 156 (+12). Keenoy began her day with a 76 (+4) and followed that up with an 80 (+8).
Competing as an individual, freshman Lexis Fickel had rounds of 89 (+17) and 90 (+18) and is in 89th with a 179.
The Oilers will conclude the event tomorrow at the Findlay Country Club. Tee times begin at 9:00 am.
