Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay Athletics Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Lauren Martin as the new head coach of the women's lacrosse program, the second head coach in program history. She will officially begin her role on September 12, 2016.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Coach Lauren Martin to the University of Findlay family to lead the women's lacrosse program", commented the Oilers Director of Athletics, Brandi Laurita. "Her passion and drive will help move our program to the next level of success and allow our student-athletes to have a championship experience."
Coach Martin comes to Findlay after holding a pair of head coaching jobs at the Division III level. Her first job was with Cornell College where she was responsible for starting the women's lacrosse program. She began at CC in the fall of 2013 with and fielded the school's first team in the 2014-15 season. From Cornell, Coach Martin spent one year as the head coach at the University of Dallas where she inherited a team of just eight players. She grew that number to 18, 12 of which had never played lacrosse, and led the team to four wins.
Findlay will not be Coach Martin's first experience with Division II lacrosse as she was a graduate assistant at Lake Erie College from 2011-2013. Her other Division II experience came as an athlete at Lees-McRae College where she was the team's starting midfielder for three seasons and was twice named as a team captain.
"I am excited to be a part of the Oilers lacrosse program and guide the student-athletes to strong futures in the classroom, on the field, and in the community", said Martin. "With the passion in the athletic deparment, and support of the community, it's an exciting time for Findlay lacrosse. I am excited for what the future holds."
