VanVleet lost his first match by decision, 3-0 to Kent State's Jacob Globke. He then scored a major decision (12-2) win over St. Catharine's Reed Daniel before scoring two straight pins. His first pin came against Alan Drake, who was wrestling unattached, in 2:37. Junior Jordan Cowell, wrestling unattached, also posted a 2-2 record in the open division of the 157-pound weight class.
The Roughnecks will be back out on the mats again on Nov. 8 when they take part in the Mercyhurst Open in Erie, Pa.
