The University of Findlay wrestling team competed at the Mercyhurst Open on Nov. 8 in Erie, Pa. and were led by sophomore Nick Goebel, who won the 149-pound weight class with a perfect 5-0 record.
Goebel reached the finals with a 3-1 victory over Buffalo's Trevor Hoffmeier and then took down Mercyhurst's Jeremy Landowski by a score of 2-1 in the finals for the championship.
Fellow sophomore Nicholas Skonieczny added a third place finish in the 165-pound weight class for the Roughnecks as well. He lost his first match and then went 6-0 in the consolation bracket to pick up the bronze.
Sophomore Joey White posted a 4-2 record for the Roughnecks in the 157-pound weight class as well.
The wrestling team will hit the mats again on Nov. 15 when they compete in the Eastern Michigan Open in Ypsilanti, Mich.
