The University of Findlay wrestling team, ranked 14th in the nation, dropped a 23-19 decision to 7th-ranked Mercyhurst University on Feb. 10 in Erie, Pa.
The Roughnecks trailed 9-0 after the first two bouts, but Ryan Skonieczny and Nick Goebel followed with two technical fall victories to give Findlay a 10-9 lead after four matches. Joey White then claimed a win at 157 to put the Roughnecks up 13-9, but Findlay lost the next two matches, allowing Mercyhurst to regain the lead.
Trailing 17-13, Randy Caris picked up a victory at 184 to close the gap to one point. The Lakers then scored a pin at 197 before Luke Fleming was victorious for Findlay at 285 for the final margin of the contest.
The Roughnecks will be back in action again on Feb. 26-27 at the NCAA Division II Super Region II Regional, which will be held in Indianapolis, Ind.
