The University of Findlay men's and women's indoor track and field teams will send nine student-athletes to the 2012 NCAA Division II National Championship, which is scheduled to take place on March 9-10 in Mankato, Minn.
On the men's side, seniors John Guagenti and Derrick Vicars will each compete in a pair of events at the meet.
Guagenti will run the 400-meter dash and also team with seniors Curtis Smithey and Shanwnathan Fort and junior Tim Sanders in the 4x400-meter relay.
The Bluffton, Ohio native was recently tabbed the 2012 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Running Events Athlete of the Year and has been named All-American five times during his tenure with the Oilers.
Vicars will compete in both the shot put, where he is ranked second, and the weight throw.
The Genoa, Ohio native was recently selected as the 2012 GLIAC Field Athlete of the Year and is a four-time All-American, winning a national championship in the discus throw during the 2010 outdoor season.
Smithey has been named All-American six times during his career while Fort and Sanders will be looking for their first All-American awards during this meet.
In addition, seniors Shane Shockey and Cory Vales will also compete for Findlay at the event in the pole vault and high jump, respectively.
Shockey is a two-time All-American and currently holds the top mark in the nation at 5.20 meters while Vales has also been tabbed All-American twice during his career.
On the women's side, senior Raven Clay will compete in the 60-meter hurdles, an event in which she is ranked second in the nation at 8.26. A seven-time All-American, Clay will look to close her historic indoor career with a national championship in the event.
Junior Jessica Rowland will head to Mankato to compete in both the shot put and weight throw. She is currently ranked third in the nation in the shot put at 15.24 meters and sixth in the weight throw at 19.56 meters.
