Oilers Finish 3-0 in GLIAC/GLVC Crossover

The University of Findlay volleyball team wrapped up competition at the GLIAC/GLVC Mizuno Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover Tournament on Saturday, October 15 with a pair of victories against Missouri-St. Louis and Drury.  After a perfect 3-0 weekend in Aurora, Ill. the Oilers sit at 15-5 on the season and remain at 8-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

Match 1 Box Score

In the first match of the day, the Oilers came from behind to defeat Missouri-St. Louis (25-13, 22-25, 18-25, 25-14, 15-7).

The Findlay attack was led by senior Hannah Tong and junior Nickyla Garverick.  Tong paced Findlay with 16 kills.  Garverick also reached the double digit kill plateau with 13 kills and ended the match with a .476 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Amanda Winner made her presence felt all over the court as she did a little bit of everything for the Oilers.  She crushed 10 kills, added four aces, and picked up six digs.

Senior Mallorie Kah continued to be a force at the net defensively with a team high eight total blocks.  Sophomore Kara Scherger led the back row with 13 digs and junior Erika Roach added nine digs.

Sophomore Hailee Olson orchestrated the offense with 46 assists and aided the defense with nine digs.

Match 2 Box Score

In the second match, Findlay defeated Drury in three straight sets (25-23, 25-19, 25-22).  As a team, the Oilers ended the match with a .370 hitting percentage while the Panthers finished at .200.

Tong continued her excellent form this weekend with 17 kills in the final game.  Winner also reached the double digit kill mark with 13 and added eight digs.

Kah was again able to lead the Oilers in blocks, as she finished the match with three.  Scherger held down the back row with 18 digs and showed off her serving skills with two aces.  Roach and freshman Molly Hammersmith also picked up two aces in the match.

Olson continued to distribute the ball well for the Oilers.  She compiled 39 assists in the match.

After three weeks on the road, the Oilers return back to Croy Gymnasium on Friday, October 21 with a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup with Ferris State University at 7:00 p.m.
